Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 was first officially announced on 12 March 2009. It was released on 8 June 2009 to North America and 3 July 2009 to the rest of the world under the genre of Sports (golf) with an ESRB rating of E for Everyone. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 is developed by EA Tiburon and published by EA Sports. It is one of the installations to the golfing simulation video game series Tiger Woods PGA Tour. The game features the U.S. Open, the USGA Championship and the USGA’s Rules of Golf for the first time in the franchise’s history. However, Club Distances for this edition have been reduced by 40 yards with a driver that states a maximum possible distance of 325 yard. Besides that, players are also able to set “powercapping” online. There is also a ‘weather channel’ that provides dynamic data for the game. In addition to that, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 also includes “Tournament Challenge” mode that allows players to replicate famous shots and moments from the PGA Tour’s history. There is also a change in the way Daily Tournaments are played online as users will be asked after a round if they want to post their score in order to keep their progress. Additionally, there is also a new feature called “Play the Pros” in which users online are able to post their scores against the actual real life PGA Leaderboards and even play in Tour Pro mode. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 also includes several new courses available for this version of the game, including Bethpage Black, Pinehurst (Course 2), Torrey Pines, Oakmont, Hazeltine National, Banff Springs, and Turnberry.

“Fuel to the fire. That’s what I consider the golf press’ words in regards to Tiger Woods’ play over the past few months. The man has had four top-10 finishes and one tourney win since his knee was surgically repaired, yet the critics have been questioning if the 30-something phenom is already washed up. Well, Tiger shoots a 65 in the last round of the Memorial Tournament, securing yet another victory for ’09, and making him the [Vegas] odds-on favorite for the upcoming U.S. Open at Bethpage. Washed up? Seems more like “just getting started” to this fan of the links. When it comes to questions of longevity, prowess and the concept of being “washed up,” there’s less to-do about the video game that bears Tiger’s name. The key reason for this is that EA Tiburon’s Tiger Woods franchise hasn’t had a competitor since 2003’s Links; it’s hard not to be considered the best and/or not washed up when there’s no one else in the race. Even though Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 could drop with no new features, and still be the Xbox 360’s number one golf franchise, the crew at Tiburon decided to push the IP to new heights. While this move may have more to do with separating Tiger Woods 10 from the solid Hot Shots franchise, Xbox gamers are going to benefit from this rivalry taking place on Sony’s hardware. A word of caution though: if you didn’t think that Tiger Woods 09 was all that great, you’ll probably have a similar sentiment on TW 10; at the core these games are very similar. Although there are some changes with the engine that would have been welcomed (it still flabbergasts me that Hot Shots changes ball flight based on the pitch of the lie, while the Tiger Woods franchise does not), the core is refined enough as to make Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 a power-player without the necessity of a major revamp.” (TeamXBox, 2009)
